HC Deb 04 March 1936 vol 309 cc1361-2
14. Captain PLUGGE

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether, in view of the decision in connection with the claim for an increase of pay for mechanics employed in Admiralty establishments, that due regard is to be had to the intention of the Shipbuilding Employers' Federation to increase their rates of pay by 2s. per week as from April next, he will arrange that any award which may be made in consequence shall be applied to all Admiralty industrial employés irrespective of grade or trade?

Mr. LINDSAY

I have already stated that a claim for an increase of pay for mechanics is under consideration and that due regard will be paid to the decision of the Shipbuilding Employers' Federation. No undertaking, however, can be given that awards will be made irrespective of grade. Existing rates of pay must obviously be borne in mind.
