§ 15. Mr. TURTON (for Mr. LIDDALL)
asked the President of the Board of Trade the extent to which reduction of the Argentine exchange tax on Anglo-Argentine railways has been nullified by the compulsory lowering of maize freights; and whether he will stipulate, when renewing the Roea agreement, that the import duty on Argentine beef shall not be less than 2½d. per lb. until Anglo-Argentine railways are permitted to earn a reasonable dividend in return for their services to Argentina?
§ The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Dr. Burgin)
The agreement between the British railway companies in the Argentine and the Argentine Government is a private one, and I am not in a position to make a statement as to its effect. As regards the second part of the question, would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which was given to him yesterday.
