HC Deb 02 March 1936 vol 309 c1002
64. Mr. H. G. WILLIAMS

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can furnish an estimate of the monthly current expenditure on special naval, military and air precautions in the Mediterranean during such period, after 31st March, 1936, during which precautions may be continued on the present scale?

Mr. W. S. MORRISON

The monthly cost of continuance of precautions on the present scale is estimated to be in the region of £500,000.

Mr. WILLIAMS

Does not my hon. and learned Friend think that we might make a very much better use of this £500,000 than by pursuing a policy of sanctions?

Mr. MORRISON

No, Sir.
