HC Deb 23 June 1936 vol 313 cc1597-8
42. Mr. DENVILLE

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been called to the plans of various stores and railway companies to open television demonstration halls for the public on their premises; and what arrangements will be made to ensure that adequate safety measures are provided at these halls in the same way as at other licensed places of entertainment?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd)

The attention of my Department had not been called to this matter. I understand that it is estimated that in most cases the screen of the receivers to be put on the market will be of such a size that about 20 to 30 persons will be able to see the picture simultaneously. As at present advised, my right hon. Friend does not apprehend that those responsible for any demonstration halls or rooms which may he opened will find difficulty in securing the Safety of such small numbers of spectators.
