HC Deb 23 June 1936 vol 313 c1588
45. Dr. LEECH

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what industrial applications have been received, since 11th May, 1936, by the proper authorities for consideration under the provisions of the Special Areas Reconstruction (Agreement) Act?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Chamberlain)

As my hon. Friend is no doubt aware, the Special Areas Reconstruction Association, Limited, was registered last Thursday, and an announcement was made in the Press on Friday morning as to the procedure which should be followed by applicants for assistance. I am afraid, therefore, that definite information on the point raised in the question is not yet available. During the interval preceding the incorporation of the company, a number of inquiries, mostly of a preliminary and tentative kind, were addressed to the Treasury, who suggested in reply that applications should be sent direct to the company as soon as it was formed.
