HC Deb 23 June 1936 vol 313 cc1596-7
62. Mr. GALLACHER

asked the Minister of Health whether he will ascertain and state the number of men on the Norfolk County Council receiving less than £1 per week in wages and the number of men in receipt of more than £400 per annum in addition to expenses approved by the last audit of account?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

I will ask the county council to supply the information desired and send their reply to the hon. Member.

Mr. GALLACHER

Will not the Department take steps to stop the practice of increasing salaries and depressing wages in many municipalities?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

I cannot accept that aspersion on my own county until I have found out whether there is any scintilla of truth in it.

Mr. GALLACHER

It is a question of which the hon. Gentleman has had sufficient notice.
