HC Deb 09 June 1936 vol 313 c24
42. Mr. LATHAN

asked the Minister of Labour whether any decision has been reached to introduce legislation at an early date to give effect to the recommendations of the Unemployment Insurance Statutory Committee for the insurance of non-manual workers?

Lieut.-Colonel MUIRHEAD

No, Sir.

Mr. LATHAN

Is the hon. and gallant Gentleman aware that continued delay on the part of the Government is causing the most serious disappointment to hundreds of thousands of people for whom no provision whatever has been made, and does he recall that there was something in the nature of a promise in the manifesto of the Government at the last Election?

Lieut.-Colonel MUIRHEAD

My answer simply indicated that no decision had yet been reached about legislation.

Viscountess ASTOR

Would it not be a good thing to put a woman on that council?
