HC Deb 09 June 1936 vol 313 c11
17. Mr. W. JOSEPH STEWART

asked the Secretary for Mines whether anything has been done to deal with the problem of flooding in the mining area of South-West Durham; whether anyone has been appointed to make a special survey of this area; and, if so, when will a report be issued?

Captain CROOKSHANK

Yes, Sir In August last the South-West Durham Reconstruction and Development Board appointed an eminent mining engineer to make an industrial survey of the coal mines in South-West Durham, with special reference to the water problem. I understand that this gentleman's report is likely to be ready for submission to the board at the end of next month.
