HC Deb 31 July 1936 vol 315 cc1860-1
12. Mr. H. G. WILLIAMS

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he can make any statement with regard to the appointment of members of the legal profession as chairmen of the committees of investigation in connection with the coal selling schemes?

The SECRETARY for MINES (Captain Crookshank)

The Chairmen of Committees of Investigation who are not members of the legal profession co-operated with me in this matter by placing their resignations in my hands as from 1st August next. I have now practically completed the appointment of new Chairmen of the Committees. I am glad to say that Sir William Graham Harrison, K.G.B., K.C., sometime First Parliamentary Counsel, has consented to act as the Chairman of the National Committee, and I am circulating in the OFFICIAL REPORT the names of the gentlemen who have agreed to serve as Chairmen of the District Committees. I would like to take this opportunity of expressing to them the thanks of the Government for placing their services at our disposal for this public work.

Following are the particulars:

Six of these gentlemen are barristers-at-law and the remainder solicitors. The appointment for Durham will be made shortly.
