§ The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir John Simon)In the 12 months ended 31st December, 1935, 4,164 motor vehicles were recorded by the police as having been stolen or taken without the consent of their owners in the Metropolitan Police District, and of this number 4,052 were subsequently recovered. In the same period 319 persons were proceeded against for thefts of motor vehicles and 218 were found guilty. Separate figures are not available in regard to stealing or receiving parts of motor vehicles.

§ Sir J. SIMONI think on the whole the position is satisfactory if 4,160 motor vehicles are moved and the police get back 4,052.
