HC Deb 31 July 1936 vol 315 cc1857-8
7. Mr. DAY

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the long period between August Bank Holiday and Boxing Day, he will consider amending the Bank Holidays Act so as to provide an additional bank holiday during that period?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. W. S. Morrison)

My right hon. Friend does not think it would be desirable to adopt this suggestion.

Mr. DAY

Have any representations been made to the hon. and learned Gentleman's Department from various Chambers of Commerce?

Mr. MORRISON

I am not aware of any representations, but I think there are practical objections to increasing the number of days.

Mr. THORNE

Does the Financial Secretary think that workmen would object to more Bank Holidays if they were paid for them?
