HC Deb 20 July 1936 vol 315 cc30-1
58. Miss WARD

asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been drawn to the reduction in the maternal mortality in the Rhondda Valley where special foodstuffs have been supplied to expectant mothers; and what policy he will pursue as a result?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given on this subject on 5th March to the hon. Member for North Cumberland (Mr. W. Roberts), of which I am sending her a copy.

Miss WARD

Is the Minister aware that these figures were available only a fortnight ago, and will he inquire into the nature of the experiment and the success with which it is being carried out?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

If the hon. Member will read the reply which is referred to, she will see that a special inquiry is actually being carried out in South Wales at the moment.
