asked the Minister of Labour the number of non-claimants either of unemployment insurance benefit or unemployment assistance registered at each of the employment exchanges within the administrative counties of Glamorgan and Monmouth?

As the reply includes a table of figures, I will, if I may, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Following is the reply:

The following table shows, for each Employment Exchange in the administrative counties of Glamorgan and Monmouth, the number of persons, insured and uninsured, on the registers at 22nd June, 1936, who were not applying, or were not entitled to apply, for benefit or unemployment allowances.

The above figures do not include claimants on the registers, numbering 138 in Glamorgan and 38 in Monmouthshire, who had been disqualified for short periods, usually not exceeding six weeks, from receiving unemployment benefit, and 224 persons on the registers in Glamorgan and 136 in Monmouthshire applying for unemployment allowances whose needs were held not to justify payment.

Of the numbers included in the above table, totalling 7,853 for Glamorgan and 2,936 for Monmouthshire, a large proportion (4,827 in Glamorgan and 1,495 in Monmouthshire) were boys and girls under 16 years of age.
