HC Deb 14 July 1936 vol 314 c1852
18. Mr. E. SMITH

asked the Secretary for Mines the number of coal-cutting and other machines introduced in the North Staffs area during the years 1925 and 1930 to 1935?

Captain CROOKSHANK

I will, with the hon. Member's permission, circulate in the OFFICIAL REPORT a statement showing the number of coal-cutting and other machines in use during each of the years 1925 and 1930 to 1935.

Following is the statement.

cash earnings of all persons employed above and below ground in this area were £107 7s. 6d. in 1930, and £124 18s. 8d. in 1935.

Mr. SMITH

In view of the increased output is it not time that the Government saw that it reflected itself in improved conditions for the miners?
