HC Deb 13 July 1936 vol 314 c1660
48. Mr. MABANE

asked the Prime Minister whether he is yet able, before it is too late, to indicate what steps the Government intend to take to initiate proposals to secure a peaceful reconsideration of the Treaties of Peace of 1919 and 1920 under Article 19 of the Covenant of the League of Nations?

The PRIME MINISTER

As my right hon. Friend informed my hon. Friend the Member for East Willesden (Mr. D. G. Somerville) on 6th July last, the question of the reform of the working of the Covenant is to be considered by the Assembly of the League of Nations next September and is at present under examination by His Majesty's Government.

Mr. MABANE

As a revision of the Peace Treaties is going on in the absence of any initiative from the League and without any consultation with the League, would it not he better if such initiative were taken by the League at an earlier date than suggested by the Prime Minister?
