44. Miss WARDasked the Minister of Health whether he is satisfied that local authorities have taken sufficient advantage of their permissive powers to provide adequately for deaf persons?
§ Sir K. WOODA considerable number of local authorities concerned are now making contributions, as recommended by my Department, to voluntary 1660 associations in aid of the work of finding employment for deaf and dumb persons, and I have no evidence that this work is hampered owing to lack of support from the local authorities.
Miss WARDDid the right hon. Gentleman see a statement of the late Minister of Health in a speech he made to the Deaf and Dumb Society with regard to the circular?
§ Sir K. WOODNo. I shall be glad if the hon. Member will let me have a copy of it.
