HC Deb 06 July 1936 vol 314 c852
53 and 54. Mr. R. ROBINSON

asked the Home Secretary (1) what is the average pension paid to pre-War police pensioners with the rank of constable, sergeant, and superintendent, respectively;

(2) what is the present number of pre-War police pensioners; and what would be the additional cost of placing them financially in a position corresponding with that of post-War police pensioners?

Mr. LLOYD

On 31st March last, 7,767 retired police officers were in receipt of police pensions granted before 1st April, 1919, of an average amount of £67 10s. a year. 6,594 of them received in addition increases of pension under the Pensions (Increase) Acts of an average amount of £29 10s. a year. I am sorry that the information in my possession does not enable me to say what their pensions would have been had the post-War conditions been applicable to them when they retired, or to give the average amounts of pension by ranks.

Mr. ROBINSON

Does not my hon. Friend think it is time that this serious injustice to pre-War police pensioners should be removed, and that they should be put on the same footing as the post-War pensioners?
