HC Deb 02 July 1936 vol 314 cc601-2
38. Mr. W. A. ROBINSON

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that the district auditor has vetoed the reduction of rates of interest on loans made under the Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts by the Warrington Corporation; and will he assist the corporation to obtain a conversion of the loan period to 60 years or thereabouts, and then to reborrow with a view to taking over and letting the houses on reduced rents where mortgagees are suffering hardship and unable to pay the present high rate of interest?

Sir K. WOOD

As regards the first part of the question, I am aware of the action taken by the district auditor, which is in accordance with the legal position; as regards the second part, I have not received an application from the corporation, and without knowledge of all the circumstances I am unable to say whether the suggestion of the hon. Member could be adopted.
