HC Deb 02 July 1936 vol 314 c597
39. Mr. LESLIE

asked the Minister of Health whether there has been any improvement in the death rate from tuberculosis in the case of females between the ages of 15 and 25 in Durham and Northumberland, as contained in the report of the chief medical officer of the Ministry of Health for the year 1933, which then showed the death rate to be 152 per 100,000; and whether he can give the figures for 1931 to 1935?

Sir K. WOOD

As the answer contains a number of figures, I will, with the hon. Member's permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Following is the answer:

Yes, Sir. For the years 1931 to 1935 the death-rates from pulmonary tuberculosis amongst females aged 15 to 25 years per 100,000 population in the counties of Durham and Northumberland, including the associated county boroughs, were as follows:

1931 161
1932 163
1933 155
1934 144
1935 131

The rate of 152 referred to by the hon. Member, which was for the period 1926 to 1930, related only to the two administrative counties, and I am unable to give rates for later years for the administrative counties separately from the associated county boroughs.
