HC Deb 02 July 1936 vol 314 cc590-1
3. Mr. BANFIELD

asked the Minister of Labour whether he can give any information on the convention adopted by the International Labour Conference providing for the control and supervision of certain forms of recruitment of native labour; whether His Majesty's representative supported this convention; and when it is proposed that it shall be ratified?

Mr. E. BROWN

When the authentic texts of the various draft conventions adopted at the recent Session of the International Labour Conference are available they will be presented in the form of a Command Paper. The attitude of His Majesty's Government towards each draft convention will subsequently be determined and set forth in a White Paper. The delegates representing His Majesty's Government at the recent Session of the Conference voted in favour of the adoption of the draft convention to which the hon. Member refers.

Mr. BANFIELD

When does the right hon. Gentleman expect to be able to issue a White Paper?

Mr. BROWN

I cannot say. It depends upon how the work is done.
