HC Deb 02 July 1936 vol 314 c613
62. Mr. GRANVILLE GIBSON

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether in view of the increase of imports over exports between this country and France during the first quarter in 1936 compared with the corresponding quarters in 1933, 1934, and 1935, he will press the French Government for a more liberal policy in the administration of the quota system in order to render the balance of trade more equitable?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The movement of the trade balance between this country and France will be kept in mind in any approaches which it may be found desirable to make to the French Government concerning the quota system or other trade matters.

Mr. GIBSON

In view of the fact that there are repeated increases, season after season, has not the right hon. Gentleman yet made some representations in order to secure that there shall be an increase of quota for this side?
