§ 33. Sir R. ROSSasked the Minister of Agriculture what is the present position as to the importation of oats from the Dominion of Canada; and whether this position is accepted as satisfactory to oat growers in the United Kingdom?
§ Mr. ELLIOTMy right hon. Friend, the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs, is at present in communication with the Canadian Government in regard to the importation of oats from Canada into the United Kingdom during the current cereal year, and pending a reply from the Canadian Government I am not in a position to make a statement on the matter.
§ Sir R. ROSSIs not my right hon. Friend aware that the importation of oats from Canada last year was greater than ever before, and was that in accordance with existing treaties with the Canadian Government?
§ Mr. ELLIOTMy hon. Friend will realise that while the matter is under discussion it would be unwise for me to express any opinion.
