HC Deb 15 December 1936 vol 318 cc2262-3
11. Dr. LEECH

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will request the committee which is inquiring about bucket shops to collect information, in relation to bucket shops, about the exploitation of investors by the abuse of the system known as private introduc- tions and private placings of stocks and shares?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

While it does not appear that the practice of private introductions and placings of stocks and shares as ordinarily understood falls within the committee's terms of reference, the committee will no doubt give full consideration to any analogous practices of a fraudulent character connected with share-pushing and share-hawking which may come to their notice. If my hon. Friend will send me particulars of any such cases which he has in mind I will see that they are forwarded to the committee.

Mr. LEACH

Will this committee have authority to examine the status of stock exchanges, many of which are merely private clubs?
