HC Deb 15 December 1936 vol 318 c2262
48. Mr. TURTON

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer on what date he received the recommendations of the Import Duties Advisory Committee relating to imported dairy products; and with what countries were the Government negotiating for a reduction of imports of these products on the date of the receipt of the recommendations?

The CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. Chamberlain)

The recommendations were received on 3rd June, 1936. Negotiations were in progress with the Netherlands and Denmark.

Mr. TURTON

As the reorganisation Commission have recommended the adoption of a subsidy policy and against a quantative regulation, will the right hon. Gentleman reconsider his attitude to that report by the Advisory Committee?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I think we had better await the result of the inquiry.

Mr. H. G. WILLIAMS

May I ask whether notice of denunciation of the treaties with foreign countries has been given?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I cannot answer that question without notice.
