HC Deb 08 December 1936 vol 318 cc1803-4
14. Mr. DAY

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will give particulars of what steps he proposes to take with a view to accelerating the procedure in connection with, and the further simplification of, the law and regulations regarding patents, and any negotiations at present pending with other countries for the purposes of dealing with the speeding up of the registration of patents and reducing the cost of same?

Dr. BURGIN

The recommendations made by the Sargant Committee in 1931 for speeding up the registration of patents have been fully implemented and the work of dealing with applications for patents is now proceeding satisfactorily. No special steps are in contemplation for any further acceleration of the procedure on applications or for amending the Patents Acts and Rules other than for making the amendments necessary to enable ratification to be given to the London Industrial Property Convention of 1934. No negotiations are at present pending with other countries on these matters.

Mr. DAY

Is is not a fact that there is some congestion in regard to this matter?
