HC Deb 30 April 1936 vol 311 c1071
19. Mr. M. BEAUMONT

asked the Home Secretary what is the total extra expenditure incurred by the Exchequer and local authorities, respectively, as a result of the Children and Young Persons Act, 1932?

Sir J. SIMON

In round figures, the increased expenditure out of the Exchequer on the services affected by this Act was £23,000 in 1934 (the first full year after the provisions of the Act came into force) and £79,000 in 1935. The increased expenditure incurred by local authorities would be approximately the same. It is not possible to estimate how much of the increase was due to the amendments of the law made by this Act.
