HC Deb 27 April 1936 vol 311 c540
18. Mr. DAY

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether he will state the gross amount that has been paid by way of grants to the Travel Association of Great Britain and Ireland, and the amounts, separately, for the last 12 months; whether his Department is consulted regarding the manner in which the money for advertisements has been spent; and will he give particulars of the success of this Department

Captain WALLACE

I assume that the hon. Member refers to grants from the Exchequer. The total amount paid to the association since its formation. in 1929 is £31,000, and for the financial year 1935–36, £4,000. The answer to the second part of the question is in the negative. As regards the third part, I have asked the general manager of the association to send the hon. Member a copy of the last annual report.

Mr. DAY

Can the Minister say whether the Government have any cash commitments to this association this year?

Captain WALLACE

Not without notice.

Mr. DAY

Can he say whether they are carrying on active work with the Dominions and Colonies this year?

Captain WALLACE

Again, not without notice.
