24. Miss WARDasked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether, in view of the decision that Tyneside would be considered for the erection of factories for Government work, it has now been decided to abandon the contention that the north-east coast is ruled out on the ground of vulnerability?
§ Sir P. SASSOONThe statement to which my hon. Friend refers was that Tyneside would be considered together with other industrial areas. Conditions of vulnerability cannot be ignored in this connection.
§ Sir P. SASSOONI have said that conditions of vulnerability cannot be entirely ignored.
Miss WARDIs my right hon. Friend aware that by an answer he gave to a supplementary question the other day he raised definite hopes in the minds of the 142 unemployed on Tyneside, and may I press for a specific answer as to whether vulnerability will not be overlooked when these matters are under consideration?
§ Mr. MAGNAYWill the right hon. Gentleman say what is vulnerability in connection with this matter? If he takes a line north of Southampton and east of that line is vulnerable and west of that line is not, we are quite content, and will rest at that.
