HC Deb 22 April 1936 vol 311 c142
23. Major OWEN

asked the Under Secretary of State for Air whether he has considered the numerous resolutions of protest against the establishment of the Royal Air Force bombing base at Porth Neigwl, South Carnarvonshire; and what steps the Government propose to take to meet these objections?

Sir P. SASSOON

Yes, Sir. Various resolutions have been received, but in view of the paramount needs of defence and the extreme difficulty of finding ground which is suitable for practice ranges, there is no alternative to proceeding with this project. Every proper consideration will be shown to the local interests and it is believed that the actual interference with these interests will be slight. I should add that against the resolutions of protest there must be set the positive support that has been forthcoming for the project, notably from the unemployed in the Pwllheli district.
