asked the Home Secretary whether he has yet read the evidence given at the watch committee inquiry held at Gateshead, including the evidence given by the mayor; and whether, in view of the evidence, he will inform the chief constable of Gateshead that he does not approve of the police being encouraged to retaliate on members of the public who are under arrest?
