HC Deb 24 October 1935 vol 305 c316
75. Mr. JANNER

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the present value of the surplus funds held by the Palestine Government, and what was the revenue and expenditure, respectively, from the end of the financial year 1934–35 to the last available date?

Commander SOUTHBY

According to the latest information, the surplus balances of Palestine at 30th September last amounted to £6,005,516. From 31st March, 1935, to 30th September revenue amounted to £2,960,203 and expenditure to £1,688,242. These figures are subject to revision.

In view of the large excess of revenue over expenditure, will the hon. and gallant Member see to it that the claims of many industries and institutions in Palestine will be examined in that light, so that the industrial state of affairs there may be improved?

Commander SOUTHBY

All relevant matters are taken into consideration.
