HC Deb 24 October 1935 vol 305 cc322-3
85. Mr. YOUNG

asked the President of the Board of Trade the number of insurance companies that have gone into liquidation since the draft Insurance Undertakings Bill was submitted to the House in 1927; and the total losses to shareholders and policy-holders in such liquidated insurance companies including those at present in course of liquidation?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

During the years 1927 to 1935 nine insurance companies have been ordered by the Court to be wound-up, and eight have gone into voluntary liquidation. I regret that the information asked for in the second part of the question is not available.
