HC Deb 22 May 1935 vol 302 cc350-1
60. Mr. KENNETH LINDSAY

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will issue a statistical report on the working of the original regulations of the Unemployment Assistance Board?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of LABOUR (Mr. R. S. Hudson)

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to the hon. Member for Colchester (Mr. O. Lewis) on 29th April.

Mr. BUCHANAN

Could not the hon. Gentleman see that before these Regulations are introduced all the information necessary is supplied, rather than that we should be left to get the information at the last moment?

Mr. HUDSON

I said, in answer to the hon. Member for Colchester, that in presenting any draft Regulations my right hon. Friend would endeavour to supply the House with all the relevant information conveniently available, and in that connection the hon. Member's suggestion will be borne in mind.

Mr. LINDSAY

Can my hon. Friend say whether he has yet received any report from the Board?

Mr. HUDSON

A report on the whole situation under the existing unemployment assistance regulations and the standstill Act has been prepared by the Unemployment Assistance Board, and was submitted yesterday to the Ministry of Labour. The report also discusses in some detail the lines along which, in the view of the Board, the existing regulations should be amended.

Mr. LINDSAY

Would my hon. Friend present the statistical portion of the report, because without such information it is impossible to form any judgment of the work of the Board?

Mr. HUDSON

That is a consideration which will be borne in mind.
