HC Deb 22 May 1935 vol 302 cc322-3
3. Sir A. KNOX

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has yet been made aware, through reports from His Majesty's Minister in China, of the extent to which the province of Sinkiang, excepting the south-west section, is under the influence of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics; and whether he will ask that a report be supplied showing the extent and nature of Soviet penetration in that province, with special reference to its effect upon Indian relations with Sinkiang?

Sir J. SIMON

Reports on all aspects of economic and political developments in Sinkiang are regularly received from His Majesty's Minister and His Majesty's Consul—General at Kashgar and no special report such as that suggested seems to be called for. The circumstances referred to by my hon. and gallant Friend continue to receive the close attention of His Majesty's Government.

Sir A. KNOX

Could we not make representations in Moscow to stop this interference?

Mr. T. WILLIAMS

Does the right hon. Gentleman agree that the statements of the hon. and gallant Member are correct?

Sir A. KNOX

Would it not be possible to make representations in Moscow to stop this interference?
