HC Deb 22 May 1935 vol 302 c347
53. Sir ALFRED BEIT

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department the number of persons arrested for being drunk and disorderly in or near the traffic-restricted area of London during Jubilee week?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir John Gilmour)

I regret that it is not possible to give separate figures for the areas in which traffic was restricted, but the number of persons arrested for being drunk and disorderly in the whole of the County of London during Jubilee week was 167. I think that my hon. Friend will agree that this low figure is highly satisfactory.

Sir A. BEIT

As this very good result was achieved in spite of record crowds and extended hours of licensed premises, will not my right hon. Friend consider relaxing the restrictions on licensing hours?

Viscountess ASTOR

Is it not true that the police were particularly lenient during Jubilee week?
