HC Deb 21 May 1935 vol 302 cc170-1
14. Mr. LUNN

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he can give the average daily output of coal per man working at the coal face in Yorkshire in the years 1913 and 1934?

Dr. BURGIN

During the year 1934, the average output per manshift worked at the coal face in Yorkshire was 67.62 cwt. Similar information for a prewar period is not available but in June, 1914, the average output per manshift worked by all persons employed below-ground was 31.24 cwt. while the corresponding figure for the year 1934 was 33.73 cwt.

Mr. PIKE

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say to what extent South Yorkshire is carrying West Yorkshire on its back in this matter?

15. Mr. LUNN

asked the Secretary for Mines the total quantity and percentage of coal cut by machinery in Yorkshire in 1913 and for each year from 1920 to 1934, inclusive?
