HC Deb 09 May 1935 vol 301 cc1134-5
41. Mr. RHYS DAVIES

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of Russia's acquiescence in the fortification of the Turkish Straits, he will make a statement as to the present attitude of His Majesty's Government on this question?

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir John Simon)

I have no information which would justify the assumption that Turkey contemplates any violation of her obligations under the Straits Convention of Lausanne, such as would be involved by her fortification of the Straits at the present time.
