HC Deb 09 May 1935 vol 301 cc1135-7
Mr. LANSBURY

May I ask the Prime Minister the business for next week?

The PRIMEMINISTER

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: Government of India Bill. It is hoped that that will bring the Committee stage to a conclusion.

Thursday: Housing Bill, Report stage.

The business for Friday will be announced later.

On any day, if there is time, other Orders may be taken.

I think it may be convenient to the House if I anticipated one item in the business for the following week, that is, the Defence Debate. The Debate on Defence will take place during the week after next, namely, on Wednesday, 22nd May.

Mr. LANSBURY

On what Vote, if any, is it proposed to take the Debate on Defence? May I also ask whether the Government contemplate finishing the Report stage of the Housing Bill on Thursday I ask that because we have a considerable number of questions which we hope to discuss on the Report stage.

The PRIME MINISTER

The most convenient Vote for the Defence Debate will be the Treasury Vote, because that includes the Vote for the expenses of the Committee of Imperial Defence. We do not propose to conclude the Report stage of the Housing Bill on Thursday.

Captain P. MACDONALD

May I ask when the right hon. Gentleman expects the Bill dealing with ribbon development to reach this House?

The PRIME MINISTER

That is in another place, and we must see what progress is made.

Motion made, and Question put, That the Proceedings on Government Business be exempted, at this day's Sitting, from the provisions of the Standing Order (Sittings of the House)."—[The Prime Minister.]

The House divided: Ayes, 215; Noes, 46.
