HC Deb 14 March 1935 vol 299 c567
75. Mr. MANDER

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that, since the limitation of hours under the Road Transport Act, there has been an increase in the number of men engaged on road haulage on Sundays; whether he has any information as to what extent this is so; what steps are being taken to discourage or prevent it; and whether one day's rest in seven is being secured?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Mr. Hore-Belisha)

No information of this kind has been brought to my notice. The Act limits the number of hours during which a driver may remain continuously on duty, and prescribes the minimum amount of rest to which he is entitled during a period of 24 hours, but does not deal with the number of days in the week on which a driver may work.

Mr. MANDER

If I bring the information to the attention of the hon. Member, will he look into it?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

Readily.
