HC Deb 13 March 1935 vol 299 cc388-9
60. Mr. KIRKWOOD

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that the Greenock Provident Bank have an accumulating number of balances which have been dormant for a number of years, in some cases over 100 years; and whether he will take legislative powers to call upon banks, local authorities, corporations, and companies with whom the public invest to make returns of unclaimed moneys standing to the credit of persons whose whereabouts have been unknown for a period of at least seven years?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Duff Cooper)

I have no information on the subject mentioned in the first part of the question. The answer to the second part is in the negative.
