§ 49. Mr. CRAVEN-ELLISasked the Prime Minister whether the Government will favourably consider calling a conference of the leading industrial nations to consider world economic conditions, with a view to coming to an agreement that will give to all nations a better opportunity of disposing of their production in the world markets which is in excess of home requirements?
§ The PRIME MINISTERHis Majesty's Government are most anxious at all times to do everything in their power to stimulate the movement of international 943 trade, but I do not think that at the present juncture this purpose would be served by calling together a conference, as may hon. Friend suggests.
§ Mr. CRAVEN-ELLISHas it been definitely decided that the Lord President of the Council is going to visit the United States of America; and, if so, will he, while there, discuss the advisability of America entering into co-operation with the British Empire to find some method of stabilising foreign exchange rates?
§ The PRIME MINISTERIn answer to the first part of the question, I believe that some rumour to that effect has been circulated, but it is without foundation, as most rumours are.
