HC Deb 25 June 1935 vol 303 cc922-3
4. Mr. CRAVEN-ELLIS

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether he is aware that the committees of the Aldershot Tattoo and the Royal Tournament have made a practice in the past of extending an invitation to the children attending a large number of national schools to witness the rehearsal of these military entertainments; and can he say if an invitation was extended this year?

Mr. HACKING

I am aware that it is the practice to extend invitations to children to attend these rehearsals, and I am informed that the usual facilities were offered this year.

Mr. CRAVEN-ELLIS

May I ask whether an invitation was extended to the children of the London County Council, whether the invitation was declined, and, if so, on what grounds the invitation was not accepted?

Mr. HACKING

The War Office were not responsible for the organisation of the Tattoo, and I cannot say what decision was reached by the London County Council or the reasons for any decision that they may have reached.

Miss HORSBRUGH

Will any steps be taken to secure that children shall be allowed to visit such things and see such interesting displays?

Mr. HACKING

I understand that the promoters of the Tattoo are only too delighted to issue such invitations. They are willing to issue invitations and hope that they will be accepted.
