§ 4. Mr. CRAVEN-ELLISasked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether he is aware that the committees of the Aldershot Tattoo and the Royal Tournament have made a practice in the past of extending an invitation to the children attending a large number of national schools to witness the rehearsal of these military entertainments; and can he say if an invitation was extended this year?
§ Mr. HACKINGI am aware that it is the practice to extend invitations to children to attend these rehearsals, and I am informed that the usual facilities were offered this year.
§ Mr. CRAVEN-ELLISMay I ask whether an invitation was extended to the children of the London County Council, whether the invitation was declined, and, if so, on what grounds the invitation was not accepted?
§ Mr. HACKINGThe War Office were not responsible for the organisation of the Tattoo, and I cannot say what decision was reached by the London County Council or the reasons for any decision that they may have reached.
§ Miss HORSBRUGHWill any steps be taken to secure that children shall be allowed to visit such things and see such interesting displays?
§ Mr. HACKINGI understand that the promoters of the Tattoo are only too delighted to issue such invitations. They are willing to issue invitations and hope that they will be accepted.
