HC Deb 17 June 1935 vol 303 cc8-9
15. Mr. LAMBERT

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he can now indicate the policy of the Government for ensuring to British livestock producers remunerative prices for their products?

Sir G. BOWYER

The White Paper (Cmd. 4828) presented to Parliament in March last set forth the views of His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom on the meat situation and outlined the policy which the Government desire to bring into operation as soon as possible for the assistance of the livestock industry. Negotiations with the Governments of meat exporting countries are still proceeding.

Mr. LAMBERT

Can the hon. and gallant Gentleman inform us whether the policy of the Government will be the subject of legislation before the Session comes to an end?

Sir G. BOWYER

I think my right hon. Friend must wait until the negotiations which are pending have been concluded.

Dr. ADDISON

In view of the fact that the subsidy already voted expires at the end of the present month will the statement be made before then?

Sir G. BOWYER

I expect so, but I will bring the question to the notice of my right hon. Friend.
