asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any statement to make with reference to the French note to Germany suggesting negotiations for German participation in an Eastern pact?

Mr. EDEN

No, Sir. My right hon. Friend has no statement to make at present.

Mr. MANDER

Is it a fact that a note has been handed by the French Government to the German Government on this subject?

Mr. EDEN

I understand that a note to this effect has been communicated by the French Government to the German Ambassador in Paris.
