HC Deb 05 June 1935 vol 302 c1866
65. Mr. THORNE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the reasons why the Treasury have been using the Equalisation Fund Account to prevent a drastic decline in the exchange value of the French currency; and whether a profit or loss was made on those transactions?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

No special transactions have been undertaken, the fund being concerned only with its ordinary business of minimising fluctuations in sterling.

Mr. THORNE

When you are using the Equalisation Fund for these purposes. do you have any consultation with the Bank of England or with any representatives of the Bank of England?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

Yes.
