HC Deb 05 June 1935 vol 302 c1847
14. Sir ROBERT HAMILTON

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what action, if any, has been taken by the Government of Cyprus to set up a juvenile court and provide for the treatment of young offenders on the lines laid down in the Young Offenders Model Ordinance circulated to Colonial Governments in 1930?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

The Governor reported in 1931 that he was taking steps to set up Juvenile Courts in Cyprus, and to give effect, so far as this was possible by administrative action, to the recommendations of the Juvenile Offenders Committee. Quite recently I have received from the present Governor a draft Juvenile Offenders Law based upon the Model Ordinance to which the hon. Member refers. This draft is at present being examined by my advisers and I hope that it will soon be possible to proceed with its enactment.
