SMITHasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that Josephine Faure, who was in Government service in the Seychelles Islands as a midwife, has been discharged on the ground that she refused to take work as a nurse at a leprosy colony; that the woman in question is not a qualified nurse and that she felt unable to undertake work in connection with lepers; and whether, in view of the fact that she has lost her employment, together with any retiring allowance to which she might be entitled, he will make inquiries into the matter?
Mr. MacDONALDI have not received any report from the Governor of Seychelles on this case, but I will have inquiries made.
