HC Deb 24 July 1935 vol 304 cc1825-6
31. Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

asked the Secretary of State for Air the proportion of additional recruits for the enlargement of the Royal Air Force enrolled in Scotland as compared with those enrolled in England and Wales?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

The proportion is about 4½ per cent.

Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

In view of the well-known engineering skill of Scotsmen, does not the right hon. Gentleman think that something should be done to popularise recruiting in Scotland?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

We have opened a special recruiting office in Glasgow, and I hope it will attract patriotic, competent and technically efficient Scotsmen.

Mr. ATTLEE

Is it not the case that most of the competent Scotsmen come to England?
