§ 78. Mr. HALL-CAINEasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is now in a position to say whether the report of the Import Duties Advisory Committee for an application for an increase in the tariff on foreign condensed milk will be available for Parliamentary approval, if necessary, before the House rises for the summer recess?
§ The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Duff Cooper)I am not at present in a position to add anything to the reply given to my hon. Friend on the 11th July.
§ Sir P. HARRISWill the hon. Gentleman see that no Order of this kind, which is likely to interfere with the price of milk will be issued when the House is not sitting, but will be held over until the House is in a position to confirm or reject it?
§ Sir HERBERT SAMUELCannot we have an answer to that question, which 1845 is one of very great importance. Possibly an Order, which may raise the price of milk to the poorer classes may be settled in the absence of the House of Commons.
§ Mr. COOPERI can give no undertaking with regard to that.
§ Mr. MACQUISTENIs not the price of milk already rising?
