HC Deb 11 July 1935 vol 304 cc477-8
23. Mr. JOHN RUTHERFORD

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware of the objections taken to the operation of Section 12 of the Metropolitan Water Board Act, 1927, under which persons having garages with no water used or laid on are assessed to water rate as though they both had and used water; and whether he proposes to take steps in the matter?

The MINISTER of HEALTH (Sir Kingsley Wood)

I have not received such objections. The method of assessment to water rate is laid down by the local Acts relating to the Metropolitan Water Board, and those Acts give me no jurisdiction in the matter.

Captain DOWER

Surely my right hon. Friend can take some steps to prevent people having to pay for what they do not want and do not get?

Sir K. WOOD

I do not think my hon. and gallant Friend heard my reply.
